Whispers of jasmine and sunlight in every glass.

Malagousia is the comeback queen of Greek wine.

Once nearly extinct, this aromatic white variety was rediscovered in the 1970s — and since then, it has captivated winemakers and wine lovers alike with its floral charm and expressive personality.

Highly aromatic, silky, and often playful, Malagousia offers a bouquet of jasmine, peach, basil, and citrus blossoms.

Yet it always carries something elusive — a Mediterranean elegance that makes it unforgettable.

🍷In The Glass

  • Dry or off-dry white, occasionally with barrel fermentation
  • Aromas: jasmine, peach, lime zest, herbs
  • Palate: soft texture, medium acidity, intensely aromatic
  • Pairings: green salads, shrimp, creamy cheeses, Thai cuisine, lemony appetizers

🍇Origin & Terroir

  • Native to: possibly Etoloakarnania or Central Macedonia
  • Now cultivated in: Macedonia, Attica, Peloponnese, Evia
  • Signature style: aromatic intensity, soft texture, elegance

💡Did you know?

  • Malagousia was revived thanks to winemaker Vangelis Gerovassiliou in the 1970s
  • It is one of the fastest-growing white varieties in modern Greek viticulture
  • Though soft and floral, it can age beautifully when fermented with lees or oak

Lefki says:
“Malagousia doesn’t shout. It leans in softly — like a story told under an orange tree.”

A large vessel used to mix wine with water during symposia — the heart of ancient wine culture.

🍇 Ampelos → From ‘ἄμπελος’
The Greek word for vine — source of the term ampelography, the study of grape varieties.

Named after the pine resin once used to seal amphorae and later became part of the flavor — an ancient tradition still alive today.
